Wendy Jo New Jewelry Artist
Growing up, I always was mesmerized by sparkling gemstones and metals - even as a "grown-up" I spent many hours admiring the specimens at the Museum of National History of the Smithsonian while living and working in the DC area for 14 years - and I often incorporate something illuminating into my designs.
Regardless of whether I intricately plan a jewelry piece in advance of producing it or spontaneously produce one by designing it as I go along, the result is inevitably something that is unique with a contemporary flair that compliments rather than overwhelms a wearer. When designing jewelry or other metal work, I always think about whether I would wear it, use it, and or display it. Anyone who knows me sees a reflection of me in what I design.
I produce contemporary jewelry and other metal designs primarily in silver and/or gold, often with the addition of texturing, gemstones and other unique lapidary, or resin inlay.I also manufacture photo-etched metal cover plates which may be riveted to journals or framed. Larger etchings have been used as logos on entry doors. In addition to showing my work in galleries, I participate in art shows and do commission work. I also teach courses and provide private instruction in jewelry design and metal fabrication.
